What's the point of having the seam upright when bowling?

What's the point of having the seam upright when bowling? what does it do for a spinner?
What's the difference between having the seam up-right and having the seam scrambled?
Does it create any effect in air? Maybe float?
Please describe the effects and what it would be used for.

The seam on a cricket ball is used to grip the ball. For pace bowlers the fingers are placed down the seam so that when the ball is bowled the seam stays upright or vertical as it travels through the air towards the batter. In this way the seam acts as a rudder on the ball helping it to swing in the air, or on bouncing to swerve or move off the pitch in different directions.

The side spinner is a variation for a spinner who is bowling upright seam.It involves the spinning or index finger to pull down on the seam of the ball so that in flight the seam is upright and at 90 degrees to the direction in which it is travelling. On pitching, the ball will either grip or turn in towards the stumps of carry on along its original line.

With the seam upright at the point of release bowler gives himself the best chance of the ball hitting the seam and deviating enough to catch the edge or bowl the batsman through the gate.When it's the scramble seam,seam doesn't stay perfectly upright after release (it appears to be "wobbling" as the ball goes down). It might then hit the shiny part and skid on, or the seam and bite. This variation in bounce and movement is very hard for the batsman to read.

I personally would prefer to bowl upright seam to the batsman who plays cross batted shots.The scrambled seam has its effects when it's bowled to a player who plays with a very straight bat.
