tips for drawing with charcoal!?

im 14 and got a charcoal set for Christmas and i really want to draw well with it!!!
this is what i have in the set:

What kind of charcoal are you talking about? There is natural vine charcoal (one of the softest) Charcoal pencils which are harder and a lot easier to use. There is also charcoal that has been hardened with graphite in the stick form that is easier to use.
Charcoal is a light to dark media. Start lighter and work up to your darks. You can do a lot of blending which is why many like the media. To blend you can use a paper stump, q-tips, tissue or your fingers and hands. As mentioned a kneadable eraser is the best eraser to use. You can also use white chalk to lighten the values as well.
When you are finished or as you work and are finished with an area of the picture, you can spray it with plastic spray called fixative. It comes in workable (you can still work into it) or a finished spray that comes in matt or gloss finish. Good luck.
